The biggest reason why you are not growing your business

Do you ever open your laptop on a Monday morning, only to feel paralysed and overwhelmed minutes later? An inbox full of emails, a head full of to-do’s. Bills to pay, invoices to send, content to create, clients to follow up. Work-life balance, what’s that? This overwhelm and crazy fire-fighting is perhaps the biggest reason why you are not growing your business. Or, is it?

Why do you keep on feeling you are working incredibly hard all the time, but your bank account is not showing the results?

One of the reasons you are feeling like this, is lack of structure in your day-to-day. You are fire-fighting, or ‘mopping with the tap open’ (a great Dutch saying!). Always busy, and feel you simply have no time for working on your business, your self-development, or – god forbid – take a day off. You are tired.

But although you might think it is structure you need (and you probably do), what lies underneath is often something entirely different:

The fear of growth.

Wait – what?

Yep.

Change is scary and you are putting it off

You say you want to have a successful business, work with high ticket clients and earn a lot more…but this also means you have to change. Change is scary.

It means increased visibility.
Showing up as a leader.

It means changing habits and getting out of your comfort zone.
Investing in yourself and your business.
Taking yourself seriously.

And you don’t know whether you can handle all that, or maybe even whether you are good enough.

So you self-sabotage.

You distract yourself with a big to-do list, ‘keeping busy’, not focusing on the long-term goals, but only on reaching the end of the week. Scrolling on social media to find some quick wins.

You put things off.

Long ago, you learnt to ride a bicycle, too

You tell yourself that it is safer to just keep doing what you are doing. “Things will probably improve by themselves soon”. Maybe you are even quite comfortable with playing the poverty card, as ‘you don’t need lots of money anyway’. Because more money means more taxes…more admin, more to handle. A bigger business means hiring a team, outsourcing. It means being a bit more grown up about it all. It’s nice to just stay small, isn’t it?

The truth, however: YOU CAN TOTALLY HANDLE THIS. You have manifested everything in your life until now. Look where you are today! Growth comes with bumps and bruises, but we all learnt to ride a bicycle once, first with support, then all by ourselves.

Sure, we can stay where we are, chugging along, living from invoice to invoice. Does that feel OK to you? Or are you up for something better?
