Marketing doesn’t have to feel icky, complicated, or fake. The secret? An authentic message that resonates deeply with your ideal client. But messaging for creatives…and writing the perfect words that attract your dream client; where do you begin?
As a creative business coach, I see too many entrepreneurs spinning their wheels because their message doesn’t align with who they really are — and their dream clients feel it.
Step 1: Know Your Ideal Client Inside Out
- What keeps them awake at night?
- What do they dream of achieving?
- What language do they naturally use to describe their challenges?
Tip: Write down a short paragraph as if you’re describing your ideal client to a friend.
Step 2: Identify Your Unique Value
What do you do differently from every other creative in your field? Don’t just list services – think about the transformation you deliver. Messaging for creatives goes a step further than just explaining what you do. What problem do you solve? What value do you give them?
Example:
- Instead of: “I offer copywriting services,”
- Try: “I help soulful entrepreneurs craft words that connect and sell without being pushy.”
Step 3: Align Your Message With Your Values
Your clients will sense if your message doesn’t feel authentic. Ask yourself:
- Does this feel true to me?
- Would I be proud to deliver on this promise every day?
Step 4: Test and Refine
Once you have a draft, test it in your emails, social posts, or on your website. Notice which phrases resonate – and which leave people scrolling past. Refinement is key.
Crafting an authentic message is the fastest way to attract the clients you actually want to work with – without wasting time chasing everyone else. Messaging for creatives is something I help many of my clients with.
