“I want to attract more clients.” This is the number #1 reason why small business owners work with me. Yes, they also come to me for more focus, structure and accountability, but their end goal, of course, is to make more money. Do you want to attract more clients as a small business? When you start your own small creative business, you do this because you have a great passion to make a difference. Without clients, it’s just a hobby.
But what kind of clients do you want to attract? Any old client? Or the RIGHT client? Someone who resonates with you, loves your brand and offer, and wants to buy? Yes, of course!
How to attract clients as a small business
Having clients is great, but your business will be even better if you attract the right clients, who appreciate you, and are willing to pay your prices. Now, to attract THAT type of client, or, in other words; your IDEAL client, you need to know a few things. Your core values, for example. Because your ideal client will only be attracted when your vibe is authentically YOU.

Of course, if you sell bread and you run a bakery, or beer in a bar, it doesn’t really matter whether people ‘get’ you. However, many of my coaching clients don’t sell products, they sell services. Online coaches, designers, even organisers, publishers, course providers need to think a bit harder about their positioning. And when you sell services, especially as a small business, you are selling a lot of yourself.
What do I mean by that? That your personality will shine through in your marketing and communication. After all, it is probably YOU that your clients will hire, or work with. Therefore, they need to feel they can trust you. They want to be sure that they like you, and that you are on the same wavelength.
In order to get that match with a client, they need information so they can make a decision to buy – or not. And if you only share bland, generic information about your business, how do they know what you’re about? How will they know that you’re the one? That is the reason why copying what others do, simply does not work. You need to show off your unique selling point, your big why, your elevator pitch.

How to create magnetic content that attracts more clients
Standing out from the crowd as a creative freelancer, small business or online coach means making content that’s real, unique, and engaging. Nobody gets excited reading boring information, or constant stream of bland posts. Here are some simple tips to help you shine:
- Know What Makes You Special: Think about what sets you apart and share your personal journey. People love to connect with a real story. Your ‘USP’, so to speak. What are you helping people with? Why do you do what you do?
- Make It Visually Stunning: Use awesome photos, fun videos, and cool graphics to grab attention. It doesn’t all have to be perfectly edited, on the contrary, but try and create visuals that, when seen together, are recognisably YOU and yout brand.
- Share What You Know: Regularly post useful tips and insights on your blog, social media, or through emails. Show off your expertise in a way that’s helpful and relatable.
- Get People Talking: Encourage your audience to comment, ask questions, and share their thoughts. Build a community around your content. It is OK to ask for feedback from the crowd!
- Be Authentic: Always stay true to your brand’s voice and values. Authenticity is key to building trust and loyalty. No copying of other, or comparing yourself. You are enough.
