My Story: From Creative Chaos to Coaching
I’ve always been a creative at heart – writing songs, painting, dreaming up ideas. But like many of us, my parents encouraged me to get a “proper job” and not become a poor artist. Still, I knew I’d end up in the creative industries, albeit as a marketing expert, word smith and project manager for most of my career.
I started out working with arts centres and cultural agencies, helping hundreds of creative businesses and individuals attract clients and grow their impact. As early as 2010, I launched my first course, “Social Media for the Terrified”, helping creatives feel confident online.
But I wanted to experience entrepreneurship myself. In 2012, with an 8-month-old on my hip, I opened a vintage furniture shop in rural Aberdeenshire. I built a vibrant, award-winning community hub – yet I faced the same challenges many creatives do:
- Feeling scattered and exhausted
- Too many ideas and no clear growth plan
- Doing everything alone
In 2016, the shop burned down. A literal and metaphorical shake-up. Clearly a sign to pivot (I don’t give up easily!).
In 2018, we decided to emigrate to sunny Valencia, Spain, with our young family. I launched an online copywriting business, and eventually combined all my skills and experiences into what I do now as The Creative Business Coach – helping creatives like you turn passion into a thriving, sustainable business.
A Bit About Me (Fun Facts)
Passions: I am a singer-songwriter (look up Nina Mae Harper), I paint abstracts, and I offer cycling tours around Valencia, exploring culture and history (I love storytelling!).
